Free Event
Join us in the Leica Lounge on Thursday, November 9, 2017 with fine art photographer Silvia Lizama. Silvia will give a presentation showing how a lifetime of influences has impacted her image making process. She will show different bodies of work, talk about the inspirations behind the work and finally give brief presentation on how she hand colors her black and white photographs.
The Leica Lounge is a lecture series hosted by Leica Store Miami which features presentations by local photographers, editors, gallerists and educators. Held monthly, these free events are designed to create and inspire the local photography community through sharing images and exchanging ideas.
The Leica Lounge is kindly sponsored by Brooklyn Brewery. Participants will be able to sample some of their amazing craft beers during the event. Artist Statement:
Our daily lives are full of stress, anxiety and pressure. There’s never enough time to do the things we must do, much less time to do the things we would like to do. How often do we take a moment, to really look around, to see what’s in front of us, to see what’s in the shadows; to see the special places. Sometimes I do take the time. Sometimes I push everything else away and just look. Sometimes I’m even lucky enough to have my camera with me.
I have been photographing my world for over 40 years. I have been fortunate throughout my life time to have been able to travel to exotic places in Latin America and Europe, as well as my own neighborhood, capturing images with my camera along the way.
My images were captured in black and white film using a medium format camera or more recently digitally captured and printed in a traditional darkroom using gelatin silver paper. After printing the images I hand colored the surface with photographic oils. The carefully applied coloring makes each image unique, adds to the fictional quality and hopefully makes real the world I witness.
