PHOTOGRAPHERS WANTED! Do you want to see your photography exposed to thousands of Art lovers, collectors, and curators during Art Basel Miami 2014?

Enter now:                              Miami Photo Salon Festival- Fine Art Photography Festival During Art Basel 2014 FINAL DATELINE SEPTEMBER 7 Our entries fees are designed to be very  low so the worldwide community of photographers can participate. Your submissions fees help us defray the costs of the venue and the Art Fair engineering, as well as allow us to promote the artists and galleries participating in the Festival. Miami Photo Salon is an International Photography Festival that will take place during Art Basel with plans to continue yearly. The goal of this project is to create a salon-style venue for photographers to showcase and exhibit work to international audiences along with artists solos and photo galleries. This event will take place in downtown Miami, where foot traffic between visiting art fairs will bring in thousands of visitors, both from the local community and international tourists. Dates for the event December 2-5, 2014.

Leica Lounge is a lecture series hosted by Leica Store Miami which features presentations by local professional photographers. Held monthly, these free events are designed to create and inspire the local photography community through sharing images and exchanging ideas.

Join us in the Leica Lounge on August 7, 2014 with Pulitzer Prize winning photographer Patrick Farrell.

About Patrick:

Patrick Farrell has been a photographer at The Miami Herald since 1987. He is the recipient of the 2009 Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News Photography for his photographs of the devastation in Haiti caused by a particularly brutal hurricane season.

Farrell has documented three decades of major news events, both locally and abroad, including the 1989 race riots in Miami’s Overtown neighborhood; political and civil unrest in Haiti during the 1994 military rule of that country; the 1999 earthquake in Turkey; the Columbine High School massacre; childhood poverty in the Americas; and Hurricane Andrew’s 1992 path of destruction in South Florida, for which he and the entire Miami Herald staff won the 1993 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service.

He was one of 10 journalists from around the world awarded Dart Center Ochberg Fellowships in 2010 from the Dart Center for Journalism and Trauma at Columbia’s Graduate School of Journalism. The fellowships are for mid-career journalists seeking to deepen their coverage of violence and traumatic events.

Farrell has won numerous awards for his coverage of Haiti, including the first place 2009 National Headliner Award for Photo Essay, two first place awards in 2008 from Pictures of the Year International, and a Feature Photography Award in 2008 from the Overseas Press Club. Farrell has been named Region Six Photographer of the Year twice (in 1992 and 1993) by the National Press Photographers Association.

Born in Miami (he’s the seventh child in a family of 12 kids), Farrell is a 1977 graduate of Christopher Columbus High School, an all-boys Catholic school in Miami. In 1981, he graduated from the University of Miami with a bachelor’s degree in television and film production. Farrell started his career working at two small South Florida dailies. He is married to Miami-based journalist Jodi Mailander Farrell and they have two young daughters.

Andres Monasterios and Natalie Sanchez, of Barkhaus Miami, walk a pack of 29 dogs down NE 5th Avenue on Friday Thursday, July 17, 2014. Every morning they take the dogs in their care on a pack walk. 

Monasterios says, "There are some that don't join in - elderly dogs, bulldogs and some that are not as athletic - wait for us at home. The rest go on the adventure and when we return all the dogs either nap or will continue to play in the yard."
