One Week Left to Apply for The Alexia There are exactly seven days remaining to submit your application for The Alexia Professional Grant and for our three Alexia Student Grants. The deadline is this Monday, Sept. 30 at 11.59 p.m. Eastern U.S. Time. The winner of The Alexia Professional Grant will receive $20,000 to produce a proposed story. The first place winner of The Alexia Student Grant will receive a cash grant of $1,000 to produce the proposed story and funding for a semester at Syracuse University. The First Place grant is equivalent to a semester-long fellowship or residency at Syracuse University, taking three classes, working on projects and further developing skills with the support of a world-class faculty. Two student finalists will receive a $500 cash grant and may attend a Momenta Workshop or a MediaStorm one day workshop or four day workshop during the calendar year after being named a finalist. Student eligibility has changed for the 2019 competition. Any student who is currently enrolled, or who graduated in May 2019 or is currently on an internship will be eligible to apply. Register Now for Latin America: Stories That Drive Change

We, at The Alexia Foundation, are busy preparing for our upcoming seminar Latin America: Stories That Drive Change. The seminar will take place April 8 & 9 at The University of Miami in Miami, Florida. It’s time to start making your plans to be there.

The seminar has a top-flight line-up. Ami Vitale will talk about passion projects and finding your voice. Pablo Corral Vega, founder of POYLatam, will showcase some of the best current work from Latin America. Adriana Zehbrauskas will discuss her body of work and her use of Instagram. Mia Tramz, who is leading the development of VR at TIME, Inc, will discuss VR and 360 videos. Whitney Johnson, National Geographic’s Deputy Director of Photography, will discuss cultivating and working with photo editors. Mike Davis will talk about what grants exist and how to successfully apply for them.

Two novel things about our seminar is that after morning talks, attendees will break into smaller groups so they can work more closely with speakers and experts in areas they are most interested in. We’ll also have project reviews where a select number of attendees will be able to get feedback on grant applications. 

Additionally, we’ll be having a reception on Saturday evening where past winners Aaron Vincent Elkaimand Mary F. Calvert will talk about their projects and we will announce The Alexia 2017 winners. 

The cost for the seminar is $95 if you register before Mar. 24, $110, if you register after Mar. 24. Lunch, coffee breaks and the Saturday evening reception are included in the price of the seminar. The University of Miami School of Communication, The Knight Foundation, PhotoWings and the Nikon Ambassador Program are co-sponsors of this event.
